Web Committee Report - October 14, 2011

With support, Jon and I have been making great progress on the site.

- Membership/Member Profiles are up and running; laying the ground work for the Genealogical functionality, up for review based on Rock River Star's future proposal in Jan '12

- Chris Scudder has supplied us with a gedcom that Jon needed to brainstorm the genealogical functionality of the proposal.

- Scudder and Mary Claire Stevens have gathered and created an updated membership list based on the mailing that went out from Cy's membership's database.

The Scudder Association Newsletter, April 2009, Number 207

In this issue:

- Neighborhood Reunions Planned for August in California
- Service in Israel and Kiev
- Scudder Receives Grant
- News and Notes
- Genealogy
- Ghost Writer by Phyllis Rowland
- Scudder Association Dues Update

Organization and Presentation of information in Groups

I wondered if most of the things I posted could be grouped under the genealogy umbrella as research tools (the Bulletins, the Newsletters, the Searches, books, ephemera, etc.). That's what I would like to see...a genealogy section with obvious and easily accessible resources. Now, folks need to scroll through all the pages to get an idea of what's available. I thought it would be fun
to have them together. Is this a major pain in the neck?

Moved Content from Forums to Groups (public) and closed the Forums.

I moved content and comments from Forums to Groups (public). This only applied to the Genealogy Forum and Group.

There had been some confusion about where to create posts, Forums vs. Organic Groups. To limit this confusion I transfered content and closed the Forums. Groups and Forums function in a similar way so we will not be losing any functionality. In fact we will be gaining some powerful functionality with Organic Groups.

Some of the attached files were missing from forum posts. I have requested that user repost the files.

Membership Management and Genealogy

This past Sunday, Scudder, Georgia and I met to work on the computer and brainstorm a membership management system. I have made several posts regarding this issue and it has been defined as my top priority for 2009.

Without getting too involved in defining the nuts and bolts of a membership management system, here is an over view of issues the proposed solution should address:
