Website Committee Report Jan - 2012

Congratulations Scudders!

There has been a great deal of work to get to this point. We have made wonderful progress restructuring our 100 year old association into a virtual environment. We are now better staged for future growth of, and better outreach to, our membership. Both current and future members will have the opportunity to build friendships, find resources, and share in making the goals of the Association possible.

Organization and Presentation of information in Groups

I wondered if most of the things I posted could be grouped under the genealogy umbrella as research tools (the Bulletins, the Newsletters, the Searches, books, ephemera, etc.). That's what I would like to see...a genealogy section with obvious and easily accessible resources. Now, folks need to scroll through all the pages to get an idea of what's available. I thought it would be fun
to have them together. Is this a major pain in the neck?

Membership Management and Genealogy

This past Sunday, Scudder, Georgia and I met to work on the computer and brainstorm a membership management system. I have made several posts regarding this issue and it has been defined as my top priority for 2009.

Without getting too involved in defining the nuts and bolts of a membership management system, here is an over view of issues the proposed solution should address:

Membership renewal process

This morning I received a notice that my membership would expire in 6 days.
Immediately thereafter I received a notice that my membership had expired.

I thought it was a great feature...the reminder to renew. I wondered about
the two messages coming at the same time. Even though my membership had
"expired" nothing terrible had happened! I renewed right then. I thought it
would be a great idea to pay the membership fee for Caitlin at the same time
(like we thought I had done a year ago). I wasn't able to pay for her. Is

T, J and E Numbers

One question still remains (one question?!?!) regarding the numbering system. Do we
want to continue using the system created by Cy (1, 2, ...312) with each person
having an individual number or do we want families to share a number with children
getting their own upon securing an individual membership? What would Jon the
Programmer do/say??
